Opelika Housing Authority Celebrates First YouthBuild Program Graduate: Montravious Turpin

Opelika, AL - July 26, 2024 - The Opelika Housing Authority (OHA) proudly announces the graduation of its first YouthBuild program participant, Montravious Turpin. This milestone marks a significant achievement for both Montravious and the OHA, showcasing the transformative power of the YouthBuild program in empowering young adults.

Montravious Turpin, 23, received his diploma at the Southern Union Adult Education Commencement Ceremony in Opelika on Friday, July 26, 2024. His journey through the YouthBuild program is a testament to his dedication, perseverance, and desire for personal growth. In an interview with the Opelika-Auburn News, Montravious shared his motivation, saying, "My main focus was just bettering myself. I feel like God didn't put me here around these bunch of good people for no reason."

The OHA extends its heartfelt congratulations to Montravious for this remarkable achievement. We are incredibly proud of his hard work and commitment and wish him continued success in his future endeavors. The OHA will continue to support him every step of the way.

The YouthBuild program is a community-based pre-apprenticeship initiative designed to provide job training and educational opportunities for youth aged 18-24 who have not completed their high school diploma. Participants in the program earn cash incentives, gain industry-recognized credentials, and acquire hands-on experience building homes for families in need while completing their GED classes or high school diploma.
