Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man whose vision of equality, justice, and love continues to inspire the world. In his 1957 sermon, Loving Your Enemies, delivered at Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, Dr. King shared the powerful words, "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." These words remain a beacon of hope, reminding us that lasting change is achieved through love, compassion, and unwavering commitment to justice.
At the Opelika Housing Authority, we are proud to strive toward Dr. King's vision by fostering communities of opportunity, inclusivity, and empowerment. We work daily to shine a light on pathways to affordable housing, self-sufficiency, and community connection, ensuring that every family we serve has the tools they need to thrive. As we reflect on Dr. King's enduring legacy, we are inspired to remain steadfast in our mission to bring hope, opportunity, and progress to the communities we serve.
